ATTENTION VEB PLASTICART & AEROFLOT COLLECTORS! |
|
It is an expertly assembled VEB Plasticart 1/100 scale Mil Mi-6 passenger helicopter in Aeroflot colors. |
|
This model kit was recently built by me, straight
from the box in accordance with the instructions. Plasticart kits
originally came with a tube of glue and silver paint, but I chose to
use Tenax 7R plastic welder and Tamiya silver enamel for better
results. |
|
History of this kit: Plasticart was an East
German model and toy manufacturer during the late 50s to the early 90s.
They produced mostly Russian civil and military aircraft. Plasticart
kits were imported into the United States, and for many years, the only
way one could get a plastic model of certain Soviet aircraft. Their Mil
Mi-6 kit is unique in that it was first produced in the early sixties,
and continued until Plasticart (Master Modell) folded after German
unification. What is most unusual about it though is the scale; it is
erroneusouly marked as 1/100 scale, but is actually around 1/87 scale.
I do not know why Plasticart never rectified this error; but at 1/87
scale, this is a HUGE model for a helicopter! Dimensions are listed
below. |
|
Like many of their models of Soviet
aicraft, Plasticart often modeled their kits after prototypes or
concept designs. For the Mil Mi-6, it appears they chose to model the
prototype with wheel fairings and early Aeroflot markings. I have not
been able to verify if Aeroflot actually flew passengers in this
configuration, but it looks great. |

Length: approx. 20 inches; rotor width: 15 inches; height: approx. 5.5 inches. |
